Description:
The original purpose of this project was to study the feasibility of a comprehensive transportation center in the vicinity of the proposed Champlain Park Way terminus in downtown Burlington. Components considered for the transportation center include: 1. intercity, interstate, and intracity bus, 2. passenger rail station, 3. light rail station, 4. taxi dispatch terminal, 5. ferry transportation, 6. bicycle storage facilities, 7. travel information, 8. parking facilities, and 9. pedestrian access. Events since that time have led to a slightly different focus for this project, including: A. adoption of the Burlington Municipal Development Plan, B. enactment of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA), and C. initiation of a larger study focused on planning for the waterfront area including planning for a transportation center.
