This study is a comprehensive evaluation of Route 116 through Hinesburg’s growth center, and includes all modes of transportation. It examines the opportunities for accommodating planned village growth and addressing current traffic congestion through enhancements in street connectivity. It also evaluates opportunities to maximize alternative modes of transportation, and provide more efficient alternative routes for local circulation.

Vermont Route 116 in Starksboro and Hinesburg is slated for re-paving by the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) in 2013. This pilot project, led by the Addison and Chittenden County Regional Planning Commissions, injects aquatic organism passage (AOP) assessment and design into the planned culvert replacements on Vermont 116. The primary objective of this project is to identify structures where subtle and inexpensive design changes such as small increases to pipe size or re-setting of the culvert can improve fish passage so that these changes can be readily incorporated into planned culvert replacements. The ultimate goal of this work is to incorporate fish passage improvements into regular paving operations around the state.

This project proposed to develop a plan to significantly reduce the use of private vehicles for transportation by students at Chittenden Valley Union High School (CVU). The original concepts to be explored included: 1. Bicycling to a bus stop and leaving bike in a rack. 2. Improving the connecting roads to CVU. 3. Installing bike racks on buses. In the course of working on the project, several additional concepts were developed.

The location of this RSAR was on Silver Street between Timber Pond Road and Heron Pond Road.

The location of this RSAR was on Pond Road between Place Road and Kozas Run.

The location of this RSAR was on Shelburne Falls Road in both directions between Route 116 to the Shelburne town line (2.9 miles), and between Richmond Road from the intersection of North Road (1.9 Miles).

This study identified transportation and safety issues on Silver Street in Hinesburg and developed and evaluated possible solutions.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of constructing three new sidewalk segments in Hinesburg Village and to provide the Town with the documentation necessary to pursue preliminary engineering and construction funding through applicable Federal and VTrans sources.
