At the request of the Town of Colchester, CCRPC conducted three traffic counts in the vicinity of River Road & Red Oak Drive, at the location of a crash incident which occurred during August of 2011

The Town of Colchester, the Chittenden County Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Vermont Agency of Transportation partnered in an effort to develop short and medium term transportation improvements for the US 2/7 corridor at the Exit 16 interchange. The goal of these improvements is to alleviate congestion and improve public safety which will consequently allow this commercial district to fully develop. The purpose of the study is to develop and evaluate design alternatives that increase safety, reduce traffic congestion and support economic growth in the US 2/7 (Roosevelt Highway) corridor at the I-89 Exit 16 area in Colchester. This study follows the 2009 Exit 16 Circulation Study which helped identify corridor issues and develop viable alternatives for improvements that were effective, yet reasonable in terms of impacts and costs. This scoping study further analyzes traffic impacts, explores design alternatives in detail and determines resource impacts for each alternative including detailed cost estimates.

The objective of this project is to estimate the economic activity associated with non-resident users of the Waterfront and Island Land Trail. In this study, the economic activity is estimated, which is associated with visitors using the Waterfront Trail in Burlington and also on the Island Line in Colchester where the trail follows a causeway into Lake Champlain to a cut where ferry service is provided at limited times during the summer season by Local Motion. Some of the data used in this project were provided by Local Motion who conducted an observational study at four locations on the trail in August 2008.

The purpose of the Western Corridor study is to evaluate transportation, land use and related conditions and create a Transportation Management Plan that presents a unified, long-term vision for managing and improving the transportation system in western Vermont. As an initial effort to coordinate planning over a vast study area, the plan does not recommend specific projects. Rather, it presents a broader vision and framework for transportation investment policies and strategies. Continuing the ongoing collaboration among the study partners will be key to developing and implementing specific projects and programs consistent with the recommendations of this plan. The plan is being coordinated with the Vermont Agency of Transportation’s ongoing project development efforts in the Corridor, including various railroad initiatives.

The purpose of this memorandum is to reanalyze the Exit 17 Growth Center traffic characteristics under two new scenarios (see the 2006 Exit 17 Growth Center Study). The first new condition involves the study of the impacts of a 6,000 square foot office development in the easternmost zone of the Exit 17 Growth Center in Colchester, VT. This proposed office development is assumed to be occupied by 2010 within the current transportation network.

The US 2/7 corridor in the vicinity of the I-89 Exit 16 interchange in Colchester has grown to become a key arterial that connects Burlington and Winooski to points north, which burdens the corridor with significant commuting pressures. The objective of this study was to develop a plan for future transportation system improvements based on reasonable and likely growth scenarios. A secondary objective was to initiate discussion with VTrans and Act 250 to affect changes in policy requirements and development review processes regarding transportation impacts in congested areas.

CCMPO received a technical assistance request from the Town of Colchester in January 2008 to examine bicycle and pedestrian issues in the Biscayne Heights neighborhood.

The Route 15 Corridor is the stretch of land 8 miles long and several miles wide between Essex Junction and Burlington that runs along Route 15 in Chittenden County. In this historic area are Fanny Allen Hospital, now part of the Fletcher Allen Health Care System, St. Michaels College, and the picturesque Fort Ethan Allen (now a vibrant mixed-use area with housing and commercial development), The Champlain Valley Fairgrounds, Camp Johnson, Vermonts richest farmlands in the Intervale, and the protected land of the Winooski Valley Park District. At either end, the corridor connects two major economic centers, the IBM Essex Junction facility and the City of Burlington.
