This project looked at barriers to EV charging that South Burlington residents living in multi-unit buildings may experience. Property managers and residents were interviewed to learn more.

This plan considers South Burlington’s public charging needs through 2050, with a primary focus on preparing for charging infrastructure needed by 2035. Public EV charging is open for any EV driver to use and may include Level 1, 2, and/or 3 electric vehicle supply equipment.

VEIC was engaged by CCRPC to provide fleet electrification support to South Burlington. This work is guided by the energy efficiency and pollutant reduction goals called out in the CCRPC ECOS regional plan, which incorporates the region’s enhanced energy plan.

The intent of this project is to build a long-term plan for expanding electric vehicle charger capacity for CarShare Vermont's fleet of shared vehicles. This entailed identifying both existing and future parking locations that would be able to host electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), working in collaboration with property owners and an electrical contractor. It also included updating legal parking agreements with provisions for installing such equipment. Throughout the project, CSVT expected to coordinate with local municipalities and other partners to seek out opportunities to synchronize goals and electrification implementation, and to document common challenges encountered when attempting to work with stakeholders to install charging equipment for the publicly accessed carsharing use case. This plan details the next steps CarShare Vermont can take to implement new EV charging opportunities identified by this planning project, and also reports on the lessons and insights encountered over the course of the project.

This Transportation Sector Implementation Plan was developed to help progress the actions identified under the transportation sector in the City’s 2022 Climate Action Plan. The plan details steps necessary to execute each identified strategy under the transportation sector and provides a roadmap for how each of these actions will need to proceed in order to realize and maximize the benefits of reduced emissions.

The City of South Burlington, with support from CCRPC Staff, identified high impact actions to reduce South Burlington’s share of Vermont’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Climate actions were divided among the following sectors: buildings and thermal, transportation, renewable energy, natural areas-adaptation-resilience, and government operations.

CarShare Vermont used UPWP funding to support our efforts to better meet the transportation needs of households with lower incomes by conducting outreach about the expansion of our carsharing service at four affordable housing developments in the Burlington area, and to promote awareness about our MobilityShare membership, which provides free memberships and subsidized driving rates to residents of the properties (and to all income eligible households in the community). This study helped inform an MTI grant awarded by the Vermont Agency of Transportation in late 2020 to introduce electric carsharing onsite at the affordable housing sites to improve access to both our service and to EVs, recognizing that EV access through ownership may be impossible or undesired for many individuals and households.

This report details CarShare Vermont’s key findings and recommendations for effectively integrating electric vehicles (EVs) into shared fleets following a research-turned-pilot project. CCRPC funding supported research and planning, then CarShare Vermont self-funded a project to pilot our first EV with in-kind support from the Burlington Electric Department. The report provides more than 12 months of data about how the EV was used and by whom, its environmental impacts, and the financial and operational implications of converting to an electric fleet, as well as our recommendations for policies that will better support the integration of EVs into carsharing systems.
